The Underlord

Most Kindred consider the Underlord to be a myth, though saying that in the presence of Pixie is likely to get them injured. No one is sure when this urban legend was created or even in fact, what he looks like. Prince Reinhardt does not speak of the mysterious entity who lives beneath the city, though he is rumored to have dealt with it to help remove the Sabbat from Milhaven.

The only contact most Kindred ever have with the Underlord is through one of his twisted childer, known collectively as the Brood. More than one Thaumaturge has theorized that these non-sentient monstrosities are most likely the result of a ritually-created Bloodline. These reports contradict those given by the only ambassador the Underlord has ever sent to any Kindred, a creature that calls itself the Beta. The Beta claims that he is the Childe of the Underlord. Whether or not he is actually the being's childer or if he is merely a Dominated pawn is highly disputed. Following are some of the rumors as to the true nature of the Underlord.

Author's Note: The Underlord's true nature is best left up to the individual Storyteller. Feel free to use the following suggestions or create your own.

  • The Underlord is a member of the dreaded Niktuku and the Milhaven Purge is just the first step in a series of related events, the next of which should be occurring in Bangor or Derry and snowballing south toward Atlanta.
  • The Underlord is an Abomination whose tainted vitae has spawned a race of terrible creatures in a horrible new Bloodline.
  • The Underlord is actually a Tremere or Tzimisce elder who has created the Brood through blood magic.
  • The Underlord is a former member of the Tal'mahe Ra who was not present at Enoch's destruction. The demise of the Ravnos Antedeluvian put the fear of the Caine into him and he now seeks to appease his Clan's Founder.
  • The Underlord is something else entirely...

The Brood
Following are general facts for creating members of the Brood. Character creation involves standard creation of a Nosferatu vampire with the special considerations listed here.
  • Clan Disciplines: Potence, Obfuscate, Auspex
  • Cannot usually be taught Disciplines - my develop the following: Celerity, Fortitude, Protean, Presence (to the 2nd level), Serpentis (to the 3rd level)
  • Place Attributes as normal. Then move any dots placed in Intelligence to any Physical Attribute.
  • Common sense should be used when placing Ability dots. Brood vampires are no more intelligent than animals and should be reflected as such. Any skills used for available Disciplines are instinctual.
  • Brood packs number 3-5 vampires. These packs act in sync, due to a strange unexplained mental link.
  • If you decide you don't want to make the Brood Cainites, You could always make them a Blood Cult full of ghouls that have been hideously deformed from prolonged exposure to Nosferatu vitae. These ghouls would suffer from a fanaticism that eclipses logical thought.
